Gorz, André

biography

André Gorz is a philosopher and journalist. In 1958, he published “Le Traître” and the following year, “La Morale de l'histoire”. In 1960, he joined the board of directors of “Les Temps Modernes”, under the aegis of Jean-Paul Sartre, whom he had met in Lausanne. In parallel to his activities as a journalist for “L'Express” and then for the “Nouvel Observateur”, André Gorz published works of reflection on capitalism, alienation through work and political ecology, focusing on the place of the individual and his autonomy. In the 1960s and 1970s, he tackled very current issues such as the reduction of working hours, universal income and the divide between the unemployed and the employed.
