László Moholy-Nagy (1895-1946), Hungarian-born painter, sculptor, photographer and theorist. He is one of the greatest influences on the teaching of art and design at the Bauhaus in Dessau and after the war in the United States at the New Bauhaus and the Institute of Design in Chicago. Influenced by Dadaism, Suprematism, Constructivism, and debates on photography, Moholy-Nagy is as much a theorist, author of important books, as he is a practitioner in fields from commercial design to theater set design, film, and magazine art direction.
