Walter Gropius (1883-1969) was an architect. Involved in the Werkbund, he was the founder of the Bauhaus (1919-1933) and emigrated to the United States in 1938 where he taught at Harvard and founded his agency TAC (The Architects Collaborative) in 1946. His influence as a pedagogue and educational thinker is paramount in the history of design.
